How to fix “download failed” issue on Tenable Nessus.

Hello folks, it’s been a long time!

In this article I will show you how to solve the common “download failed” plugin error during Nessus installation on Windows OS.

This sometimes happens because of the big database plugins size.

First of all, you have to run the nessuscli.exe via the command line prompt (make sure that you are in the Nessus installation directory).

Stop Nessus service:/etc/init.d/nessusd stop

Then you type in “nessuscli.exe” followed by the “update –all” command.

Fetching and applying data.

After the manual update procedure is complete, start the Nessus service by running the following command: /etc/init.d/nessusd start

Finally, try running the Nessus web client once again via the web browser.

  1. doesnt work if you dont restarting nessusd service …after updating you need to kill the service from task manager and then resubmit nessuscli.exe update
